How this long-tail keyword tool works

LongTailLab queries the public autocomplete services of six search engines at once, exactly like the suggestion dropdown you see when typing in Google. Every suggestion is a phrase that real people have actually searched for, which is why autocomplete remains one of the most honest sources of long-tail keyword ideas for SEO, blogging, YouTube and PPC campaigns. You enter a broad seed keyword — for example protein powder — and the tool systematically combines it with question words, prepositions and every letter of the alphabet, collecting every variation the engines return. Nothing is invented, nothing is estimated: what you see is what the engines themselves suggest.

  1. Type a seed keyword. Keep it short and broad — one or two words work best.
  2. Pick engines and modes. Questions and Alphabet soup modes multiply your long-tail harvest.
  3. Export and validate. Copy or export to CSV, then check volumes for your shortlist in Google Keyword Planner.

What are long-tail keywords? Definition and examples

Long-tail keywords are longer, more specific search phrases, usually three to six words, that people type when they already know what they want. "Protein powder" is a short-tail keyword. "Best vegan protein powder without sweeteners" is a long-tail keyword. Each long-tail phrase is searched less often, but the people searching it have clearer intent, so the traffic tends to convert better and the competition is usually lower. That is why long-tail keyword research is the standard starting point for new websites, blogs and YouTube channels.

Long-tail keyword examples

You do not have to invent phrases like these. Type your own seed keyword into the long-tail keyword tool above and the engines will show you the real variations people search for.

Short-tail vs long-tail keywords

Short-tail keywords have a broad meaning, high search volume and heavy competition. Long-tail keywords have a narrow meaning, lower volume per phrase and much less competition. Together, many long-tail pages often bring more qualified traffic than a single page fighting for one head term.

How to do long-tail keyword research, step by step

  1. Start with a broad seed keyword. One or two words about your topic, for example "protein powder".
  2. Run it through all six engines. Google, YouTube, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Wikipedia and Amazon each suggest different phrases, and a phrase that shows up in several engines is worth a closer look. Turn on Question keywords, Alphabet soup and Prepositions to multiply the results.
  3. Sort the list by intent. Group phrases into informational ("how to", "what is"), commercial ("best", "vs") and transactional ("buy", "near me").
  4. Check demand for your shortlist. Autocomplete shows phrases, not search volume. Copy your shortlist and check it in Google Keyword Planner or Google Trends before you commit.
  5. Give each cluster its own page. One main phrase per page, with the related phrases as headings and supporting text, and links between related pages so search engines understand the topic.

How Google autocomplete works for keyword research

Google Autocomplete predicts what you are about to type using real searches from other people, how popular and fresh a phrase is, and the language and location of the searcher. The predictions are not a list of search volumes, but because they come from real queries they are a reliable source of phrases people actually use. That is exactly what LongTailLab collects: it asks each engine for its suggestions, one seed at a time, and merges everything into a single deduplicated list.

Why LongTailLab beats the freemium alternatives

Unlimited, not “3 per day”

Ubersuggest’s free plan is capped at three searches per day. SEMrush gives you ten reports a day behind a sign-up wall. Keywords Everywhere became a paid credit system. LongTailLab has no daily cap, no credit system and no account — the tool is free because it is light, not because it is crippled.

Six engines in one pass

Most free generators only scrape Google. Comparing Google, YouTube, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Wikipedia and Amazon suggestions in a single run surfaces buyer-intent and content-intent phrases that a single engine never shows.

Free CSV export, no lock-in

Many competitors let you see keywords but paywall the export. Here, selection, copy and CSV download cost nothing and always will. Your keyword lists belong to you.

Fast pages, zero popups

No modal newsletters, no cookie walls, no chat widgets. The page is a few kilobytes of HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript, which keeps Core Web Vitals green — a ranking factor your tools site will benefit from too.

Your first session with LongTailLab, step by step

If you have never used a suggestion tool, this is the quickest way to get a useful list. Type one broad word or a short phrase for your topic, such as "standing desk" or "sourdough". Leave Google selected and add YouTube if you also make videos. Turn on Suggestions and Question keywords for a first run, and press Find keywords. In a few seconds you will see a list with a counter of unique keywords. Click a phrase that looks promising to make it the next seed, or tick the ones you want and use Copy selected. When you are done, Export CSV opens the list in any spreadsheet.

For a bigger harvest, run the same seed again with Alphabet soup and Prepositions switched on. Expect many more results and more noise, so budget a few minutes to clean the list. The guide on how to organize a keyword list into pages shows how to do that without losing the good phrases.

How to get cleaner results

What suggestion data can and cannot tell you

Suggestions come from real searches, which makes them a good source of wording and ideas. They do not include search volume, difficulty or the intent behind each phrase. To judge intent, search for the phrase and look at the format of the pages that rank. To judge demand, use Search Console once a page is live or a paid tool for the shortlist. A sensible plan is to use LongTailLab for the wide first step and the other tools only for the small final shortlist. Why a free tool should still be used with care

A free tool is only as good as the judgement applied to its output. Choose phrases you can answer better than the pages that exist, write for the visitor first and for the search engine second, and update the page when the facts change. Google's own guidance on helpful, people-first content applies to every page you build from a keyword list.

Frequently asked questions

Is LongTailLab really free and unlimited?

Yes. There is no daily cap, no credit system and no paid tier. Unlike Ubersuggest (3 searches per day on its free plan) you can run as many seed keywords as you want, as often as you want.

Do I need to create an account or log in?

No account, no email, no cookie wall. Open the page, type a seed keyword and export. That is the whole flow.

Where do the keyword suggestions come from?

Directly from the public autocomplete (suggest) services of Google, YouTube, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Wikipedia and Amazon. These are real phrases real people type, which makes them excellent long-tail seeds for SEO and PPC.

Does it show search volume or keyword difficulty?

Autocomplete APIs do not expose volume, and we refuse to show made-up numbers. Use LongTailLab to harvest phrases, then validate the shortlist in Google Keyword Planner (free with a Google Ads account).

Can I export the keywords to a CSV file?

Yes. Select the keywords you like (or select all) and click Export CSV or Copy. Both are free and unlimited — no locked export like most competitors.

What are the Question and Alphabet modes?

Question mode prepends words like how, what, why, where and when to your seed to surface question keywords. Alphabet mode appends every letter a–z to your seed (the classic alphabet soup technique) to surface long-tail variations most tools miss.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, the interface is fully responsive and the page weighs almost nothing, so it loads fast even on slow connections.

Do you store my keywords?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is saved, profiled or resold.

Is LongTailLab a good Keyword Shitter or Keyword Sheeter alternative?

Yes — and it needs no account to prove it. After Keyword Shitter / Keyword Sheeter went offline in 2026, the same workflow lives on here: paste a seed keyword, harvest hundreds of keyword ideas, tick the ones you want and export to CSV. You also get question, alphabet-soup and preposition modes plus six engines instead of one, with no daily cap.

How is it different from KeywordTool.io or AnswerThePublic?

No account and no daily limits. KeywordTool.io shows search volumes only on a paid plan and AnswerThePublic caps free users at roughly three searches a day. LongTailLab gives unlimited runs, six engines and free CSV export of every keyword on your list.

What is a long-tail keyword?

A long-tail keyword is a longer, more specific search phrase, usually three to six words, such as "best vegan protein powder without sweeteners". It has lower search volume than a broad term but clearer intent and less competition.

How do I do long-tail keyword research for free?

Enter a seed keyword in LongTailLab, choose your engines and modes, and run the search. Sort the results by intent, then check demand for your shortlist in Google Keyword Planner or Google Trends. No account is needed.

What are some long-tail keyword examples?

Examples are "best running shoes for flat feet", "free keyword research tool no sign up" and "how to find youtube keywords for small channels". Use the tool above with your own seed keyword to see real examples for your topic.

How does Google autocomplete work?

Google predicts what you are typing using real searches from other people, how popular and fresh a phrase is, and the language and location of the searcher. It shows phrases, not volumes, which makes it a good source of long-tail keyword ideas.

Does LongTailLab show search volume?

No. Autocomplete data contains phrases but no volume numbers, and we do not invent estimates. Copy your shortlist and check it in Google Keyword Planner or Google Trends.

The best free Keyword Shitter alternative (still working in 2026)

Keyword Shitter — later relaunched as Keyword Sheeter — was the classic "paste a seed, watch the keywords rain" generator that a generation of SEOs grew up with, and it finally went offline in 2026. If you have been hunting for a keyword shitter alternative or wondering why keyword sheeter is not working, the workflow did not die: LongTailLab does the same job with no registration, no daily cap and six engines instead of one. Paste your seed keyword, let the list build, tick the phrases you like and export them to CSV — the same three steps you remember, without the login screen that most sites like Keyword Shitter now force on you. Free keyword generator with no login and no daily limits

Most "free" keyword tools are freemium tunnels: AnswerThePublic lets you run about three searches a day before asking for an account, Ubersuggest caps its free plan at three a day too, and KeywordTool.io hides volumes and CPCs behind a paywall. LongTailLab is a genuinely free keyword generator with no login, no email capture and no credit system — an unlimited keyword generator you can use as a bulk keyword generator for a whole content calendar. Open the page, type, harvest, export: that is the entire funnel. Want to know who builds and maintains it? The about LongTailLab page explains the project in two minutes.

YouTube keyword generator — find the phrases viewers actually type

Video SEO starts with the exact wording your audience uses, and search bars are the most honest survey in the world. Run your seed through the YouTube engine of this YouTube keyword generator to turn one phrase into dozens of video-title candidates, tag lists and description openers, then cross-check the same seed on Google and Bing to spot the phrases with double intent. A free YouTube keyword tool that exports to CSV means the shortlist goes straight into your planning sheet. The section on how this long-tail keyword tool works shows the whole workflow in three steps.

Long-tail keyword generator for SEO, blogs and PPC

Head terms are a knife fight; long tails are open ground. A three-to-five-word phrase with clear intent ranks faster, converts better and costs less per click, which is why a long-tail keyword generator is the first tab a smart blogger, affiliate or PPC manager opens in the morning. Run your seed with the question mode on to collect question keywords for FAQ blocks and featured snippets, use the alphabet-soup mode to surface the odd-letter variants no competitor has written about yet, and export everything to your editorial calendar. Comparing options first? The FAQ answers the usual doubts — or go straight to the free long-tail keyword research tool above and start harvesting.
