What are question keywords?

A question keyword is a search written as a question, such as "how to find youtube keywords" or "what is long tail keyword". People usually type them when they want an explanation, so they fit guides, FAQs and videos very well.

How to generate question keywords

  1. Enter a seed keyword in the tool.
  2. Switch on the Question keywords mode and choose your engines.
  3. Run the search and look for the phrases that start with a question word.
  4. Export the list to CSV.

How to turn questions into content

Question keywords and People Also Ask

Google shows related questions in its People Also Ask box. LongTailLab does not scrape that box. It collects the questions that autocomplete suggests, which come from the same real searches and are available without a limit.

What this tool does not show

It does not show search volume. Check your best questions in Google Keyword Planner or Google Trends.

What each question word tells you

Every question word signals a different intent. "What" and "why" usually come from people who are learning, so a clear explanation fits. "How" signals a task, so a step-by-step page fits. "Which", "vs" and "best" signal that the reader is comparing options and is closer to a decision. "Can", "is" and "does" usually expect a short yes-or-no answer followed by context. Reading your list through this lens tells you what format each page needs. Our guide to question words for keyword research goes through each one with examples.

Turn a list of questions into a page

Choose the three to five questions that share the same topic and answer each one under its own heading, using the question as the heading text. Give the answer in the first sentence under the heading, then add detail. This structure is easy to read and is the kind of passage search engines can quote directly. If you only have space for short answers, collect them in an FAQ block; how to write an FAQ section from question keywords shows a template you can copy.

Questions and People Also Ask

The boxes of related questions that appear in Google results are built from the same kind of searches you collect here. Writing a clear answer to a question people already ask gives you a chance to appear in that box, but nothing is guaranteed. We explain what is known in question keywords and People Also Ask.

Quick checklist before you publish

Who benefits most from question keywords

Bloggers use them to find article ideas that match real doubts. Online shops use them to write product pages that answer pre-purchase questions. Small businesses use them to build an FAQ that reduces repeated support emails. In every case the value is the same: you write about what people already ask instead of guessing.
